STOTT PILATES® Central

You don’t have to BE flexible, or strong, or fit to start pilates!

 in es sens dance

If you were, you wouldn’t need it!

Did you know that....

YOU'VE WORKED REALLY HARD FOR YOUR TENSION, YOUR POOR POSTURE, AND YOUR PAIN & DISCOMFORT!

Think about it! You've practised slouching and leaning forward while you type, holding the phone on your right shoulder, always carrying your bag on one side, scrunching your toes while you're in traffic, etc. It took time to develop those patterns, and it'll take time to re-program the body. The first thing to do is to become aware, not to "FIX". 1+1 has never equaled zero and two wrongs have never equaled a right. So if you slouch, over-engaging your back muscles to stick your chest out or stand with a 'straight' spine IS NOT the solution we want.

STOTT PILATES is an ALL GAIN, NO PAIN* exercise. Really!
If you:

  • have poor posture
  • low back pain
  • expecting to become pregnant,
  • recently had a baby
  • want to improve body strength, ease of movement, and core stability
  • (and yes, pilates enhances sex, benefits to both genders, so guys pilates is good for you too!)

then I suggest giving pilates a try.

Pilates is a relaxing and rejuvenating way to:
1. bring awareness to where our body is right now so then we can make a plan of where to go;

  • alignment, mind-body connection, breathing & core

2. build a strong CORE (abdominals, and back) as the foundation for your body, for your movement, for your life;

  • how do we really "engage our abs" and it's not by 'pulling our belly buttons into our spine"

3. work the body holistically;

  •  as opposed to isolating just the bicep, we work whole body-integration, with each exercise starting at your core

4. strengthen the body & increase flexibility safely & effectively

  • without creating pain & tension

5. discover a new way of being in, and relating to, your body;
 free of pain and discomfort.

The great thing about STOTT PILATES* is that we work within your body’s abilities to progressively get you to a stronger, more flexible, healthier state. With client-centred teaching, a STOTT PILATES exercise program will be customized specifically for your body type, your strengths and weaknesses, your needs and goals. Exercises are modified so each client can gain optimal benefits while working safely. And as you progress, so too does your exercise program.in es sens dance Yes, you can work up a sweat in pilates!

My teaching approach:

  • practising correct technique and safe execution of movements; I see no point in doing movements that will cause me pain/discomfort now or tomorrow morning. DO LESS AND DO IT WELL!
  • modifiying exercises so that your body can get maximum benefit for where it is right now. If your neck muscles are not strong enough to keep the head up in sit-up position for very long, we'll use the support of a Flex-band so that your body can restructure itself around a correct placement and muscle engagement.
  • guiding the body through imagry: your body knows what muscles to engage for movements, but we've spent years telling it to do otherwise. Imagry gives the body a starting point, an active way to get to a destination with ease. As opposed to saying things like, "Squeeze your abs," or "Stand tall" or "Push it, hold it, go-go-go". Those are very tense and limiting things to think about when working out. Instead I'll offer an image of: on the exhale imagine a corset around your torso tightening just a little bit giving you a strong column at your centre," thereby engaging the core without compromising our pelvic alignment.

in es sens danceInterested in private classes? Or semi-private? I will save you the time and trouble of travel and come to your home or workplace. All you need is enough floor space to make a snowangel and I'll bring the rest. Grab some friends or co-workers for group classes and save money. Move that coffee table/ kitchen table/ or board room table aside and let the workout begin! We can discuss alternate arrangements for space if there is not enough at your home or workplace.

Private and Semi-Private (2 people) sessions Cards of Ten must be used within 4 months of first appointment.

Most clients prefer once a week appointments. Some prefer to meet twice a week to see momentum on their progress. Some choose twice a week for the first 3-4 weeks to lay down a solid foundation so they won't forget the material.

"BUT I USE PILATES VIDEOS," YOU SAY! Videos can be a great way to workout when you want to in the privacy of your own home, and save money. The draw back to video workouts is that you miss out on the one-on-one, human-to-human corrections and cueing that could enhance your progress and allow you to work safely. VIDEO SUPPORT COACHING is a new program for people who want to continue to use their pilates videos and ensure that they are working optimally and safely.

If you’re interested in seeing what some of the exercises are like check out STOTT PILATES - WORK IT! in the future for step-by-step instructions and tips they may not tell you on exercise videos! [not currently posted]
